Calcutta, May 31: City-based Sinclairs Hotels is planning to expand in Bengal. The hospitality firm is looking to set up a 114-room business hotel in New Town, Rajarhat.

It is also looking to commission a 48-room hotel project in Kalimpong and a 20- room tourist resort in Burdwan.

Sinclairs at present operates two properties in Bengal (Darjeeling and Dooars) and two more in Ooty and Port Blair.

“We have received the clearance from Newtown Calcutta Development Authority. Construction is expected to start within two months and the project could take three years,” CEO and managing director Navin Suchanti told The Telegraph.

He said the project was located close to the Tata Medical Centre and once completed would be one of the bigger hotels of the company in terms of room count.

“We expect demand for budget hotel rooms in the region to grow and through our Rajarhat project, we would be able to cater to that demand,” Suchanti said, adding that the company was also upbeat about revival of demand for hotel rooms in the north Bengal region.

“We are bullish about north Bengal. Our hotels have done good business last year and we are coming up with a luxury project in Kalimpong, which is spread over 5 acres,” said Suchanti. The hotel is expected to be operational within this fiscal. The tourist resort project, located close to Panagarh, is also in the final stages of implementation and would be commissioned in the current fiscal.

“With strong performance of its existing properties and two new properties to be commissioned in the current year Sinclairs is well poised to post high growth in the year,” Suchanti said.
