HCL Insys profit leaps 62%

New Delhi, Jan. 18: HCL Infosystems Ltd (HCL Insys) today registered a 62 per cent jump in net profit and a 91 per cent jump in revenues in the quarter ended December over the corresponding period of the previous year.

The company reported consolidated revenues of Rs 1994.8 crore against Rs 1042.9 crore during the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Net profit rose to Rs 81.7 crore from Rs 50.5 crore.

Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and CEO of HCL Infosystems, said: ?We feel encouraged by the results. It proves that we are on the right track with our focus on customer satisfaction and regular returns to shareholders. We will keep innovating and tailoring solutions for Indian conditions and markets. Our job of making the country IT-enabled is cut out. We are going to concentrate our energies and talents on it.?

Revenues from the HCL?s computer business grew 34 per cent to Rs 502.2 crore from Rs 373.9 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Profit before interest and taxes stood at Rs 39.2 crore against Rs 31 crore.

The office automation and telecommunication business registered a 123 per cent growth in revenues at Rs 1482.6 crore against Rs 664.4 crore. Net profit for this business grew 101 per cent at Rs 38.8 crore from Rs 19.3 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

The company said revenues for the business continues to grow sequentially. An increase of 26 per cent is expected in the current quarter. Consolidated earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter was put at Rs 18.2.

For the half-year ended December, consolidated revenues were Rs 3574.3 crore, while pre-tax profit was Rs 137 crore. The board has declared a second interim dividend of Rs 7 per share (70 per cent on a share of Rs 10 each).

The imaging unit of HCL Insys bagged plum orders from Bharti Infotel, Western Railways, United Nations Development Program and the Indian Army. Sale of Nokia phones is part of this business.

In telecom, the company bagged a big, first-of-its-kind contract from Webel for a tele-medicine project in six locations of the Northeast. That will touch the lives of many common Indians in remote areas.
