Merck in $17bn buy ONGC churn RINL offer Siemens move

Merck in $17bn buy

New Delhi, Sept. 22: German drug maker Merck will acquire US-based Sigma-Aldrich, led by Indian-origin CEO Rakesh Sachdev, for $17 billion in an all-cash deal. “Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Sigma-Aldrich for $140 per share in cash. The agreed price represents a 37 per cent premium to the latest closing price of $102.37 on September 19,” Sigma-Aldrich said in a statement today.

ONGC churn

New Delhi, Sept. 22: The government has removed three independent directors appointed by the previous UPA regime from the board of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation. The three directors are P. Umashankar, S. Ravi and R. K. Singh.

RINL offer

New Delhi, Sept. 22: Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) has filed a draft prospectus with Sebi for an initial public offer through which the government will sell a 10 per cent of its stake in the company.

Siemens move

Frankfurt, Sept. 22: Siemens AG has said it will buy US oilfield equipment maker Dresser-Rand Group Inc for $7.6 billion in a bid to boost the German company’s oil and gas business in North America. Siemens said its $83-per-share bid was unanimously supported by DresserRand’s board of directors.
