Alstom board recast

New Delhi, May 9: Alstom today approved board level changes following the open offer from French energy major Areva T&D SA to acquire its transmission and distribution business. Krishna Pillai has resigned as deputy chairman and joint managing director A. K. Dhagat has been designated as managing director. Two more board members, S. M. Momaya and C. J. Murray, have also resigned. The board has approved the appointment of Areva representatives Michel Augonnet as executive vice-president, Nicolas Swetchine and Karim Vissandjee as vice-presidents.

Banking act

New Delhi, May 9: The Centre will introduce bills to amend the Banking Regulation Act and the RBI Act shortly, a move that is likely to push forward banking reforms and increase FDI in private banks.

CAG report

New Delhi, May 9: The CAG has reported that the fall in the ratio of customs and excise duty collection to the GDP has led to a decline of the tax-GDP ratio from an average of 9.32 per cent during the eighth plan period to 9.17 per cent in 2003-04.

Reliance move

New Delhi, May 9: The Reliance group is planning to buy the plastics business of ICI Pakistan for $300 million.

SAIL plan

New Delhi, May 9: The government today said SAIL is eyeing equity stakes in overseas mines.
