Los Angeles, June 27 (Reuters): Kevin Costner, who skyrocketed to Hollywood fame in 1990’s Oscar-winning movie Dances with Wolves, has become engaged to longtime girlfriend Christine Baumgartner, the actor’s spokesperson said.

Costner, 48, and Baumgartner, 29, met four years ago and have been dating since. A wedding date has not yet been set. The marriage will be Costner’s second and Baumgartner’s first.

Costner made his name in Hollywood in baseball movies like Bull Durham and Field of Dreams, but it was Dances with Wolves that brought him Oscars. He directed and starred in the epic story about former Civil War soldier stationed in the western wilderness where he befriends native American Indians.

The movie won the US film industry’s top honour, the Oscar, for best picture that year as well as the best director honour for Costner.

Costner’s recent films include 3000 Miles to Graceland and Dragonfly and his latest film, Open Range, will debut in August. Baumgartner is a businesswoman.
