Kurseong, Oct. 8: A two-day exhibition to generate awareness on the environment kicked off here today.

The event is being organised by the members of Tarumitra (friends of trees), who are all students of St Joseph?s Girls? High School.

Kurseong civic chief P.C. Agarwal inaugurated the exhibition.

The exhibits drew attention to the massive deforestation that has occurred in and around the town over the past few years. One of the models displayed how the loss of forest cover has led to the town being swamped by monkeys.

?This exhibition has been organised for the people of Kurseong, especially the students, to generate awareness among the residents. The chairman of the municipality is happy with the efforts being made by the students. He has, in fact, requested us to extend the exhibition and promised to help us in our efforts to successfully implement our ideas,? said Sudeshna Pradhan, in charge of Tarumitra?s activities in the school.
