Google’s Pixel phones have had many breakthrough moments in computational photography and artificial intelligence. The company’s new Pixel 10 series is no exception.

The new series of Android smartphones, showcased at an event in Brooklyn, New York, comprises Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Also making its debut are Pixel Watch 4 smartwatch and Pixel Buds 2a wireless earbuds. The tenth-generation phones have not just received a new Tensor G5 chip, a number of other upgrades have been announced.

Pixel 10 throws a jab at Galaxy S25

The Pixel 10 doesn’t look drastically different from the one showcased last year. It still has a matte aluminum frame and a 6.3-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. But noticeable updates include amping up the brightness to a peak of 3,000 nits and a significant boost to the speakers.

Even though Google and Samsung work closely when it comes to features, Pixel 10 throws a jab at the Samsung Galaxy S25. It has a bigger battery — 4,970 mAh — than last year’s Pixel 9, which had a 4,700-mAh battery. It is also larger than the battery on Galaxy S25 (4,000 mAh).

Furthermore, it features a longer zoom (5x vs. 3x) and slightly faster wired charging (up to 30W on the Pixel, compared to just 25W). Both phones come with the same seven years of Android updates and security patches.

The Pixel 10 supports Qi 2 wireless charging up to 15W and features magnets on the back to help ensure correct alignment with a charger.

Hello three-camera system

There are now three cameras on the rear — a wide-angle, an ultrawide, and a 5x telephoto. The 48MP wide-angle camera and the 13MP ultra-wide may appear identical to the cameras on Pixel 9A. But the tuning appears to have been upped a fair deal. Google’s photo processing pipeline is quite accurate and adds value to the camera system. But one must remember that more cameras don’t make the overall experience better.

Plenty of AI tools

Since it’s a phone from Google, expect a number of AI-powered features. For example, Gemini-powered Camera Coach can give you a step-by-step tutorial on how to take a better photo, like stepping closer to the subject or changing the framing.

We have already seen features like Best Take, which first appeared on the Pixel 8. It uses a series of images of a group photo to find the “best” expression for each person in the picture. On the Pixel 10, the technology unfolds automatically.

Then there’s Magic Cue, which can pull up relevant information from your phone based on what you’re doing. For example, if a friend is asking for the address of your hotel, it will surface that info, so you don’t need to go digging for it.

Google’s Daily Hub functions a bit like Samsung’s Now Brief feature, which puts handy reminders, calendar appointments, and more all in a single place.

For photography, natural language voice commands can be used to edit images or add new elements to a pic.

Another interesting feature involves text-based photo editing. On tapping the Edit button on a photo in Google Photos, you’ll have access to all your usual editing tools, but you’ll also see a ‘Help me edit’ chatbox. Here, you can ask Google to, say, erase elements in a photo without having to highlight it using your fingers.

Voicemail transcriptions are not always correct. Google has a new feature called Take A Message. On getting a missed call, Google can ask the caller for a message. It can then transcribe the same and show it in the dialer app.

Journal app

Apple has beaten Google to the punch by a few years; nonetheless, Google now has its Journal app. You will get prompts about what you can journal about. You can lock the Journal app behind a pin or passcode.

Going Pro

Pixel 10 Pro offers the ultimate Pixel experience. Available in two sizes (6.3-inches) and Pixel 10 Pro XL (6.8 inches), you can grab them in Obsidian and Porcelain as well as new colours: Moonstone and Jade. And with Pro Res Zoom, you can reach up to 100x zoom only on Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL. They feature Pixel’s biggest batteries, upgraded speakers, 16 GB of RAM, and faster wired charging, while Pixel 10 Pro XL supports 25W Qi2.2 wireless charging.

Tensor G5

The new chip delivers snappy performance while bringing helpful experiences to Pixel users first. And thanks to co-design with Google DeepMind, the newest Gemini Nano model will run first on Tensor G5 to unlock many on-device generative AI experiences.

Dust-resistant foldable

Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold comes with an IP68 rating, making it the first foldable that’s dust-resistant and protected against continuous submersion in water. The bezels on the outside have been reduced to offer a larger 6.4-inch cover display. The inner screen remains the same at 8 inches.

Pricing

Pixel 10 starts at 79,999, Pixel 10 Pro costs 1,09,999 and Pixel 10 Pro XL is priced at 1,24,999. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will set you back by 1,72,999.
