Calcutta: Barinder Sran's figures so far in the tour of Zimbabwe certainly indicate success in the ODI series.
However, the young left-arm pacer feels he needs to be consistent and work further on his fitness level in order to be ready for tougher assignments.
Speaking on the eve of the first of the three T20Is between India and Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club, Sran said: "To be successful under difficult circumstances, I need to be consistent with the line and length.
"I need to improve a lot. I need to improve my pace and fitness level. And I will work towards achieving these in the next season."
Swinging the ball and finding the right areas is Sran's focus at present. "See, I am not over-exerting myself. Because if I do that, I struggle to maintain wrist position and the swing gets affected.
"So, I am only focusing on swinging the ball and trying to hit the right areas. Let's see how it goes," he said.
In his first international series, in Australia earlier this year, Sran struggled with his line and length and was too short on some occasions. But in Zimbabwe, he has concentrated on bowling fuller-length deliveries.
"In Australia, I had a problem in my shoulder because of which I couldn't perform to my potential. So I was under some pressure.
"I didn't have much experience in the domestic circuit either then. Still, everybody supported me and that felt good. They carried me along.
"In Australia, it was quite hot and the wickets were very good for batting. Whereas here, there is some help for the bowlers. I have just tried to make optimum use of the conditions," Sran said.
Bowling alongside Ashish Nehra and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad has also been beneficial to Sran, he emphasised.
"In the IPL too, Nehra paaji and Bhuvi bhai were with me. They taught me the seam position and supported me in all aspects right from the beginning.
"I owe them a lot for my development. For two-three days, I also went to Chandigarh and met my coach Amit Uniyal and worked with him," Sran said.
