Andre Russell, sidelined by a hamstring injury since Kolkata Knight Riders’ clash versus Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi more than a week ago, has resumed training.

This should bring in further relief for the Knights, who are in good space at present following their win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, which has kept them very much in contention for the fourth and final play-offs berth.

In a video uploaded on his Instagram handle on Monday, Russell was seen working out at the team hotel gym, undergoing hip mobility exercises. The other day, he was seen taking heat therapy in another video, which was uploaded on the eve of the Knight Riders’ game against Punjab Kings in Dubai.

“Yes, Russell has resumed training. So let’s see how things transpire,” said one KKR official.

The Knights play Rajasthan Royals next in their final game of the league phase, another must-win game for them, on Thursday. A couple of days are still left for that game, but skipper Eoin Morgan and the rest of the team management need to be very careful about rushing Russell back in the XI as the burly, explosive all-rounder is also expected to play a crucial role for the West Indies in the T20 World Cup.

The reigning champions begin their T20 World Cup campaign on October 23 versus previous runners-up England in Dubai.

Along with Russell, New Zealand quick Lockie Ferguson too suffered a hamstring niggle and could play no part after the game versus Delhi Capitals at Sharjah. But his condition too is better. “Lockie too has started training. In fact, he was there in the dugout during our last match (versus Sunrisers) as a part of the 18,” the KKR official said.
