Dutta takes the responsibility

Mohun Bagan finance secretary Debashis Dutta will refrain from participating in football related matters of the club and the team building process for the next season. His decision comes in the wake of Bagan’s defeat to East Bengal in the CFL title-decider. Also the fact that the team failed to win any major trophy for the last three years has effected his decision.

In a letter addressed to club general secretary Anjan Mitra, Dutta wrote: “I take full responsibility for the debacle of the football team.

“Accordingly, I will refrain from participating in the football affairs of the club as well as team building for the next season. I wish success to the club.”

Interestingly, Dutta had announced his resignation some months ago only to change his mind in a few days time.

Mehraj move

Defender Mehrajuddin Wadoo will don the Mohammedan Sporting jersey in the upcoming season. “We have roped in Mehrajuddin, along with Charan Rai and midfielder Khanthang Paite. We’re confident they will turn out to be good recruits,” Mohammedan Sporting football secretary Iqbal Ahmed said on Saturday.

Mehrajuddin played very few matches during his stint with Mohun Bagan last season.

Cricket meet

Arindam Ghosh hit 96 as Mohun Bagan finished at 334 against Shambazar Club, on Saturday, in the First Division Championship Play-off match, at the Jadavpur University Salt Lake Campus ground.

For Shambazar, Tuhin Banerjee took four wickets.

Brief scores: Mohun Bagan 334 in 85 ovs (A. Ghosh 96; T. Banerjee 4/47) vs Shambazar Club
