Calcutta, Feb. 13 :    Calcutta, Feb. 13:  Kirti Azad has formally applied for affiliation for his Association of Bihar Cricket (ABC), claiming he had 'better deal' on offer for the state's cause. The cricketer-turned-politician called on BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya at his CAB office today and asked for the association's recognition. The Laloo Prasad Yadav-led Bihar Cricket Association is the other body in the state. Dalmiya said Azad's case, and those from the newly-formed states, will be discussed in the Board's working committee meeting, to be held on February 26 and 27. Legal opinion will also be sought before taking a decision. The Board president said Ratnakar Shetty and Shivlal Yadav would scrutinise all applications for affiliations and present a report to the Board before that meeting. Dalmiya added the Board has also received an application for affiliation from the Laloo Prasad-run body. But he said internal disputes should be ironed out among the rival bodies. Citing Jharkhand's example, he said rival factions there 'are now functioning as one unit'. Azad, meanwhile, maintained he had plans ready to improve the condition of cricket in Bihar. 'I'm here to tell Dalmiya that the ACB is better-placed to deal with the cause of Bihar. The Vijay Hazare Trophy was supposed to be held in Patna, but thanks to the bickering establishment, the meet was cancelled. The players are insecure and there is nobody to look after them. But the ACB has some plans to change the existing state of affairs,' Azad said. 'A few days back, I spoke to Rajiv Kumar (Bihar captain) and he was literally crying, expressing his team's hapless condition in the absence of any recognised association in the state. 'I told the BCCI president we are going to hold the Rajendra Prasad Trophy (a local tournament) from tomorrow. We have also asked the Board to send observers to see how we are faring. Dalmiya said Shetty and Yadav would act as Board observers during the tournament. Azad said a number of former players have been involved into the ACB. 'Syed Saba Karim has agreed to look after the association's technical wing as executive director while umpire S.K. Bansal will the tournament director,' he said. He also offered an olive branch to Laloo Prasad, Nitish Kumar, Ram Vilas Paswan and other politicians to join his association as patrons - a move aimed at consolidating his position as ACB president. ACC meeting Dalmiya, meanwhile, said the Asian Cricket Foundation meeting will be held in Sharjah on Saturday, followed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting on Sunday and Monday. He said the Mike Denness affair may figure on the agenda.
