Haflong, Feb. 3: Altogether 107 flags were hoisted during the second day of the three-day ninth special annual session of Asam Sahitya Sabha, the apex literary organisation of the state, at NL Daulagapu sports complex in Haflong, the district headquarters of Dima Hasao.

The main flag was hoisted today by Sabha president Dhruba Jyoti Borah and the rest by representatives of all tribes, cultural organisations and prominent citizens.

It was followed by the Sabha's theme song - O mor aponar dex - sung by eight different indigenous communities in their own languages.

Talking to reporters, Sabha general secretary Paramananda Rajbongshi said, "We are thankful to people of Assam for their contributions without which this session would not have been possible. We have not received a single paisa from the Centre or the Assam government. It is very significant that the special session of the Sabha is being held at Haflong just before its centenary celebrations schedule to be held at Sivasagar next year."

The Asam Sahitya Utsav (literary meet) is also being held in which renowned writers from different parts of Assam, Tripura, Bengal and Odisha took part.

A youth forum meet was also held where the forum discussed the aims and objectives of the Sabha. The meet was attended by more than 500 youths from all indigenous communities of Dima Hasao district and from other parts of Assam.

A cultural programme was also held today where different indigenous communities showcased their culture and tradition.

The concluding ceremony of he session will be held tomorrow at 10.30am with a special discussion on Kachari kingdom and Assamese culture and literature. It will be followed by a cultural procession and an open session at 1.30pm.
