Seven two wheelers — most of them barely a year old — and a blue Santro were recovered following interrogation of two youths who were arrested from Nimta, on the northern fringes of the city, and Serampore in Hooghly on Saturday night.

Police said Sheik Tajuddin was rounded up from Fatullapur in Nimta after a team of police officers kept collecting information about “two-wheeler lifters” active in the area following a recent spate of theft of bikes.

Tajuddin’s arrest and subsequent interrogation at Nimta police station led police to Prakash Kishori of Serampore. The two were allegedly instrumental in the theft of a number of several two-wheelers and cars.

“Seven two-wheelers and a car have been recovered. We are trying to recover a few more,” said an officer.

“The investigation started after we received a complaint about the theft of a motorcycle in Nimta on December 16,” said an officer of the police station. “Subsequently, several other cases of theft started surfacing.”

Two injured in accident

Madhyamgram: Two autorickshaw passengers were injured after the three-wheeler fell into a ditch after being hit by a two-wheeler off Jessore Road in Madhyamgram on Sunday afternoon.

Police said the biker had lost control of the vehicle and hit the auto.
