New Town book fair from December 22

A stellar line-up of singers will perform at the soirees, including Jayati Chakraborty, Usha Uthup, Lopamudra Mitra and Anupam Roy

The dates of the ninth New Town Book Fair have been announced. The fair at City Square, (the clock tower ground) will start from December 22 and will continue till January 1.

The fair’s theme country this year is Bangladesh and the first two days of the fair will be observed as Bangladesh Divas. A Bangladesh pavilion will be built as well.

Jayati Chakraborty, Usha Uthup, Lopamudra Mitra and Anupam Roy. Seminars and book releases will be held. A sit-and-draw contest will be held on December 24, from 1pm, a singing contest on December 27, 3pm onwards, and a recitation contest on December 28, 3pm onwards.

Three days in course of the fair, December 24, 25 and 26, between 3pm and 7pm, have been set aside for the seventh National Poetry Festival, said fair organising committee president Urmila Sen. Quiz on poetry, poetry antakshari, poetry duet and kabir lorai will be part of the programme.

Sen pointed out that transactions worth Rs 35 lakh had taken place at the fair last year.
