The school was established in 1952 and inaugurated by the then President of India Rajendra Prasad.

It was set up by Manas Vikas Vidyalaya Trust (Calcutta), an association that to this current day, strives to provide quality education for boys (and now girls), in a healthy atmosphere.

The school not only pursues academic excellence but also aims at bringing a sense of responsibility to students.

Soon after it was opened, students from all over the country flocked to this residential school. Two years ago, due to the ever growing demand, the school opened its gate for day students as well. At present, there are 50 day scholars including girls.

Schools are a more than just the syllabus. It is also about the social sense of a students. And no one believes it more than the school authorities.

Thereby, authorities here feel that children learn the best lessons in life by helping others. To learn more about the greater world or the greater India that lies beyond the campus, students visit neighbouring villages.

They have also lent a helping hand in constructing roads around the villages. The Social Service League ? a very active group? recently helped build a road in the Neori village.

The boys also learnt the meaning of ?work? and responsibility by teaching the younger children in the villages.

The school has an open-air theatre where it holds programmes.

The campus is situated on the Ranchi-Patna Highway, about 15 kms from the railway station, 35 kms from Ramgarh railway station and 20 kms from the airport.

It is a sprawling estate of 200 acres, of which, more than 50 acres are occupied by the school complex consisting of a three-storey academic block, science laboratories, workshops, hobby centres, library and arts block, four boarding houses, central dining hall, hospital, temple, gymnasium hall, auditorium, swimming pool and a rifle shooting range.

Besides, there is well laid out orchard, vegetable garden, a farm, a dairy attached to the school.

Yes, a ?sport? is there in all the schools, but here it is a way of life.

Students take part in cross-country race every year. The senior boys have to complete a distance of 6 km and junior boys have to cover a distance of 3.5 km.

The school also has an aero-modelling club where students are involved in making models all by themselves.

The school also participated in the I.P.S.C Rifle shooting competition held at RIMC Dehradun. The students of the school bagged the third position in the competition.

The school boxing team bagged the third position in the IPSC boxing championship held at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports Rai (Sonipath).

There are a fields for football, hockey cricket, basketball, handball, volley ball, lawn tennis and an athletic track for sports.

The school has all the three wings of NCC ? army, air and naval.

The school attaches considerable importance to creative and cultural activities such as music, art, sculpture, photography, plastic work, woodwork, wicker work, repair of electric gadgets, electronics, debate, elocution, dramatics, quizzing and general knowledge?do you wish for more?

Inter-house and inter-school programmes are held to foster a healthy competitive spirit among the boys.

The school has a library with over 15,000 books. Boys are encouraged to borrow books to read in their spare time. The reading room is adequately stacked with periodicals, newspapers and magazines.

There are four hostels ? Rana Pratap, Shivaji, Abhimanyu and Bharat.

There is a hostel superintendent in every hostel who assists the housemaster in looking after the boys? linen and general cleanliness.

The boys in the hostel are not allowed to make telephone calls. They can receive calls from home in their respective hostels. ?Parents should encourage letter writing,? feels the principal. The school also invites suggestions from guardians. ?We provide them with 25 set of questions so that existing lacunae can be rectified,? said school secretary Rajman.

After lessons get over in the afternoon, it is time for more classes, in English, Hindi and mathematics to make sure that no child lags behind. And worried mothers need not fear. The child will be well taken care of during medical emergencies as the school has its own hospital and round-the-clock doctor.

One glitch though for those in love with non-vegetarian food ? it is strictly forbidden!
