New Delhi, April 29: Singer Sonu Nigam has claimed Zee has "banned" him for tweeting in support of Aam Aadmi Party leader and "poet friend" Kumar Vishwas over last week's alleged suicide of a farmer at a party rally.
The controversy erupted after Sonu posted the tweet on Monday, suggesting Zee News may have wrongly portrayed Vishwas poking fun when Gajendra Singh Rajput was seen hanging from a tree.
While Zee News showed Vishwas as saying " latak gaya (he has hanged himself)", the leader claimed he never uttered the words and alleged a "voiceover". "A video later came out on YouTube confirming I was not even speaking when the words "latak gaya" were heard, as shown by the channel," Vishwas said.
Sonu had suggested, though, the alleged voiceover may be "a simple case of some1 close 2 d cameras uttering those words". "Not mischievously, but by chance, perhaps." Today, he tweeted: "So now Zee announces a ban on me:) What do I say..."
A source in Sonu's Mumbai office said "various producers had called and told us they will cancel contracts with Sonu, otherwise Zee Music will pull out of the projects". A Zee official said "we have nothing to say on the matter".
