What: Rhythmosaic presents Buddha The ‘Why’ Within, in association with t2

Where: GD Birla Sabhagar

When: March 2 and 3

The plot: The plot centred around three characters of Mahabharata — Ulupi, the abandoned wife of Arjun and a Naga princess from Manipur, Aravan who was Arjun and Ulupi’s son, and Barbareek, Bhim’s grandson and Ghatotkach’s son.

On the stage: A melange of Kathak, jazz and contemporary dance forms. This collaboration between Mitul Sengupta and Ronnie Shambik Ghose of Calcutta-based Rhythmosaic and Gianin Loringett and Martine Kaisserlian of France-based OffJazz Dance Company resulted in a production that blended diverse dance cultures along with elements like Wushu, a Chinese martial art form. “I have known Mitul and Ronnie for a long time. This production was a real challenge, as we had to put up a seamless amalgam of diverse dance forms. India seems to be opening up to various dance forms, so it was inspiring,” said Martine, who co-choreographed the production, while son Yorma performed.
