Gokaraoke was the party call at The Irish House on a recent December evening. Pub hoppers had the opportunity to go behind the mic, courtesy AXN, that had tied up with multiple outlets of The Irish House in the country to host The Voice Karaoke Nights to promote its popular reality singing show The Voice.

In Calcutta, the event was held in association with t2.

Ankita Roy, an actor, and her friend Amartya Chaudhury couldn’t stop grooving to their karaoke tunes. “This was my first time as a karaoke participant and my friend sings so well. I’m so bad at it that the emcee had to cut me out and sing herself!” laughed Ankita.
All participants won show badges from AXN and a shot on the house.
Arjyesh Ray, the drummer of band Bhoomi, was the winner of the evening, taking home a pair of cool headphones. “The support from the crowd was an ego boost. I have religiously watched all the seasons of The Voice and since Adam Levine is my favourite singer, I am on his side,” said Arjyesh who aced classics like Stairway To Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody and Hotel California.
Friends (l-r) Priyanjalee Sengupta, Aparajita Modi, Nikita Jalan and Amishi Gupta were on a girls’ night out. “We had such a blast and sang many, many songs... Shape of You, Mamma Mia, My Heart Will Go On.... After that we even started singing when others were on stage,” laughed human resources professional Amishi, who’s watched a few seasons of the show that’s now judged by Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson and Blake Shelton.
Priyanka Patra was the jockey of the evening and sang some hit numbers to keep the crowd pumped up. “The idea of this karaoke was to highlight the four judges of The Voice. I enjoyed performing Moves Like Jagger (by Adam Levine’s Maroon 5),” said Priyanka.
We spotted Anantvikram Agarwal with friends Mehak Sharma (left) and Adiba Aftab. “The karaoke night was crazy. Although we did not sing, it was fun to see everyone having a drink and singing their hearts out,” said Anantvikram, a student of St. Xavier’s College.
“I am on a two-month vacation from my job and my friends and I just wanted to unwind and no better way than to go karaoke. I had a really good time singing Cheap Thrills,” said Lisa Nair (second from left), who was there with her gang of friends.
