A binge-watching session, a movie marathon or a house party — any occasion calls for a feast and food delivery apps are our best buddies to fall back on. As Uber Eats recently launched in the city, t2 checked out how it fared against similar apps like Swiggy and Zomato. We ordered the same dish from the same restaurant, at the same time, using the three apps. And while it was an awkward encounter between the three delivery executives, we surely loved the binge-eating that followed!
Here’s how the apps worked out for us...
SWIGGY
1. The app starts with offers of the day, which leads to the restaurants nearby.
2. Popular brands are highlighted on the app.
3. You can’t book tables through this app. It’s only for food delivery.
4. You need an account to order food.
5. There’s an option to search for a particular dish. Key in the name and a list of restaurants and dishes shows up.
6. Orders can’t be scheduled.
7. All orders are online.
8. Available on iOS and Play Store.
9. Our food was delivered within 29 minutes of ordering.
10. You can pay using credit or debit cards, netbanking, digital wallets, food cards and even the cash on delivery option.
UBER EATS
1. The app starts with the offers of the day and goes on to highlight the restaurants from where you can get your food within 30 minutes as well as what’s new on Uber Eats.
2. Unlike Swiggy and Zomato, popular brands are not highlighted here.
3. This app, too, is only for home delivery.
4. You can either log in with your existing Uber Ride account or create a new account.
5. Search for a dish and a list of restaurants appears.
6. Orders can be scheduled from half-an-hour to a week in advance, and you can set up the time for delivery.
7. All orders are online.
8. The app is available on iOS and Play Store.
9. Food was delivered within 29 minutes of ordering.
10. Pay by cash or use Paytm.
ZOMATO
1. The app has its restaurants clubbed under sections such as cafes, pubs and bars and dine-out restaurants.
2. Popular brands are highlighted on the app.
3. You can book tables at restaurants through this app.
4. You need an account to order food.
5. A list of restaurants comes up when you search for a particular dish.
6. Orders can’t be scheduled.
7. Orders can be placed online and also by calling.
8. The app is available on iOS and Play Store.
9. Food was delivered within 28 minutes of ordering.
10. Pay through digital wallets, debit-credit cards, cash on delivery and epay later accounts.
