(L-R) Shayak Chakraborty, Jayashree Mohanka, Anil Vaswani and Kinshuk Biswas were the winners of Ladies First — a general quiz on women — at Summer Quiz 2018, held at Dakshin Kalikata Sansad (DKS) on June 10. “This festival has an interesting mix of quizzes and it was fun participating,” said Jayashree.
Dhruv Mookerji was juggling being the quizmaster and a participant and ended up being a part of the winning contingent of the SharpShooter 3 quiz that focused on pro wrestling. “We are friends who enjoy quizzing and we are always excited to sit in for each other’s quizzes. There is strong understanding and cooperation,” he said.
(L-R) Soubhadra Chakraborty, Arijit Sen and Ruru Chowdhury won the Bizarre quiz that was all about “biz, brands, lifestyle”. Like Dhruv, Arijit and Ruru were both quizmasters as well as participants. “We have been planning this fest for almost four months and were motivated to bring in an interesting blend of quizzes and promote the quizzing spirit,” said Arijit. “The enthusiasm of the participants and spectators was fantastic,” Ruru added.
Club speak: “DKS is always up for trying out new things and creating opportunities for everyone to come together and learn something. Quizzing is a mental sport which should be popularised as it creates a platform where people can learn and even teach others new things,” said Ajoy Sen, the honorary assistant general secretary.
(L-R) Shourya Sarkar, Daibayato Basu, Spandan Sengupta and Nayonika Sen relived their days of quizzing. “Quizzing was something we used to actively participate in school. These fests help us come together and enjoy learning new things and sharing knowledge,” said Spandan, a first-year student of physics at the University of Toronto who was at the fest with his friends to participate in the quiz.
Rishin Chatterjee was one of the quizmasters. “We are a group of friends and it was really exciting to put this event together in an attempt to promote the quizzing culture in the city.”
Rajeev Bhattacharjee also threw some questions at the participants. “It’s fun to conduct a quiz and see the participants wrack their brains over brands and things that are an important part of our lives and we see or use daily,”
he said.
