» singer I have dry skin so I use a Neutrogena mild face wash daily. I follow it up with a a L’Oreal White Perfect day cream. I also go for regular body polishing and use a Biotique body oil regularly. I am very particular about removing my make-up and use a Johnson’s make-up remover to do it. Normally, during the day I have very little make-up on. I use a M.A.C or Bharat & Dorris kohl. I also use a M.A.C blush-on and a Sally Hansen shea butter gloss. In case I am going out at night I just use a L’Oreal volume enhancing mascara. I am not a huge eye-shadow fan but I do use a black shade from Chambor. Also, since I have waist long hair I take very good care of it. I make sure I go to the salon at least twice a month and get head massages and hair spas. Pix: Rashbehari Das |
I am 25 years old and I have combination skin. Should I start using an anti-ageing cream? Which one will be better: an anti-ageing cream or anti-wrinkle cream? What ingredients should be present in it? Please suggest.

In your 20’s generally your skin is free from blemishes, your pores are invisible and your complexion is even and taut. Save your skin by using an SPF 15 sunscreen everyday. Start your preventive anti-ageing regime with a good eye cream to hold off crow’s feet. Cleanse well, remove all traces of dirt and makeup before going to bed, keep oil plugs at bay with good exfoliation. In your thirties, when the party is over you can expect to see visible changes in the texture of your skin. This can be a real eye-opener. Cell turnover gently slows down, so adding exfoliants to speed it up is key. It is the perfect time to start more intense anti-ageing skin care. Currently there are several clinically proven active ingredients used in skin rejuvenation, plus antioxidants and a vast array of ingredients that play a supporting role:
1. Retinol — Helps reduce fine lines and pores
2. Epidermal growth factor — Made of 53 amino acids to stimulate cell renewal and collagen production.
3. Alpha Hdyroxy Acids (AHAs) — Helps expose newer skin cells to improve appearance.
4. Peptides
5. Coenzymes Q10

6. Anti-oxidants — substances that may protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals.
7. Sunscreen — UVA/UVB
The effects of these ingredients depends on their concentration and mode of application
TOP TIP
Take a nice warm (make sure it is not too hot!) shower or bath before you go for any kind of waxing. Alternatively, you can also apply a warm compress right before your waxing. This will help to open up the skin’s pores and soften the skin. This will in turn allow the hair follicles to be extracted much more easily. Not only will this make the pain much less and bearable, it will also ensure that any irritation caused due to the stress put on the skin while pulling, outbreaks and ingrowths is reduced.
