Musical exploration

Musical exploration
It is well known that the musical genius of Rabindranath Tagore was spruced up and perfected in the magical ambience of Jorasanko Thakurbari, where he was nourished and influenced by Indian classical music as a child. In his mind, the six seasons resonated with every subtle change in nature, which have been immortalised in his raga-based songs on the various seasons. Tagore’s intrinsic creative streak and poetic skills created harmony between ragas and Rabindrasangeet, and generated a perfect fusion of words, theme and rhythm. To mark the occasion of Poila Baisakh, Subha Pal, Maitrayee Ray and associates present Ritu O Raag, a collage of dance, music and reading based on Tagore’s lyrical compositions and classical ragas. Exploring the ragas of seasons embodied Tagore songs, the evening’s cultural ensemble brings together the unity of the seasons in a colourful and picturesque way. Participants: Sounak Chattopadhyay, Apala Basu, Dipankar Pal, Tripti Chakravarty, Anushila Basu and Nabanita Chattopadhyay (vocal); Bappa Chattopadhyay and group (dance); Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee and Subha Pal (narration); along with musicians Rana Dutta (keyboard), Bhaskar Sen (sarod), Dibyendu Banerjee (tabla) and Amit (percussion). Chief Guest M.K. Narayanan, Governor of West Bengal, will felicitate five eminent women in their chosen fields: Sumitra Sen (Rabindrasangeet), Devi Kar (educationist), Roopa Ganguly (actor), Rani Karnaa (Kathak) and Nabaneeta Dev Sen (author).
