A car passes through an inundated street in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday afternoon. An hour's downpour late in the afternoon came as a relief for the residents of Bhubaneswar who were reeling from heat and accompanying humidity.

The downpour started around 3.30pm and continued till 4.30pm. However, the drizzle followed till late into the night.

The local meteorological centre attributed the rain to the high levels of humidity in the climate, while saying that such rainfall would continue for a few more days. The rainy afternoon left several low-lying areas of the city, such as Acharya Vihar, Jayadev Vihar and Old Town inundated in the evening.
