Vigil against trafficking

The NGOs Missing, New Light, Jabala Action Research Organisation and Apne Aap, in association with the German consulate in Calcutta, organised a flash mob at Quest Mall to raise awareness about human trafficking on July 30, the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.Volunteers marched with posters and black ribbons, interacted with curious mall-goers and encouraged them to take steps that can prevent the crime. The flash mob drew all eyes in the mall, as girls as young as eight, clad in black, clapped their hands and shook a leg to Jai Ho.Actor Abir Chatterjee was in attendance, along with German deputy consul Jurgen Thomas Schrod. They spoke and took pictures with the young women."When we live our everyday lives, we often develop a kind of denial about these issues that so many people face every day. Events like these are a reminder to keep caring and keep fighting against such evils. We must look out for each other, and I applaud this initiative for prompting all of us to do just that," said Abir. Picture by Arnab Mondal
