- Railways observe NDA's second year at Centre; gifts special links for two cities

Dhanbad division on Thursday conducted a special cleanliness drive across its 114 stations, on the first day of Rail Hamsafar Saptaah, announced by the Union railway ministry to celebrate the NDA government's two years at the Centre.

Commencing the programme with Swachchata Diwas on May 26, the other days will be observed as Satkar (hospitality) Diwas on May 27, Sewa (service) Diwas on May 28, Satarkta (vigilance) Diwas on May 29, Samanjasya (coordination) Diwas on May 30, Sanyojan (connection) Diwas on May 31 and Sanchar (transmission) Diwas on June 1.

Senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) Abhishek Kumar, who supervised the cleanliness operation at Dhanbad railway station, said, "Today (Thursday) an intensive cleanliness drive was carried out. At the station, not only the entire campus including seven platforms were swept and washed but the trains stopping by were also cleaned by over 200 railway and Nirankari Mission workers." He was accompanied by senior divisional operating manager Sanjay Kumar, senior divisional engineer (special) Rajiv Kumar and others.

Giving details of the week's plan, he added they would celebrate Satkar Diwas on Friday during which officers would inspect passenger amenities like catering and drinking water facilities on railway stations as well as inside the trains. "The catering establishments are expected to provide improved services. "Strict action will be taken against the defaulters," said Kumar.

On Sewa Diwas, officers will travel in long distance trains from 10am to 4pm and review passenger complaints in the evening, said Kumar

On Satarkta Diwas, the focus will be on punctuality besides a special ticket checking drive will also be conducted.

On Saamanjsya Diwas, another special cleanliness and plantation drive will be conducted in the railway colonies.

While Sanyojan Diwas is dedicated to freight customers, who will be apprised of the improved services, on the concluding day, a press conference, regarding various achievements of railways during the last two years, will be held.
