Cine club wraps up celebrations

Guwahati, April 22: Talks and screening of selected movies will mark the concluding ceremony of Gauhati Cine Club's yearlong golden jubilee celebration.

The three-day event, beginning tomorrow here, has been deemed important and emotive for the organisers, as it will bring together all its members - old and new.

"The club's president, A.K. Absar Hazarika, will inaugu-rate the closing ceremony at Kanaklal Barua auditorium of Assam State Museum tomorrow. A cine quiz, which will be open to all interested persons, is scheduled for the day," said Madhurima Barua Sen, secretary of the club.

The club will screen Mriganavi, a film directed by eminent filmmaker and a life-member of the club, Hemen Das, at 11am on Sunday. In the afternoon, Oorvazi Irani, a filmmaker from Mumbai, will deliver a talk on "Auteur and Bollywood", which will be followed by a film screening.

"Similarly, there will be film screening at 11am on Monday, the concluding day. Prizes will be given to the winners of the script writing and quiz competitions. The event will come to an end with the screening of Oorvazi Irani's movie The Path of Zarathustra in the evening," Barua said.
