Student date with IITeration

The IIT-Kharagpur Alumni Association, Calcutta, is back with the second edition of its annual flagship programme, IITeration: Nation Building, powered by The Telegraph - YOU.

This year's theme is: India is now a land of infinite opportunities for the GenX.

Hundreds of students of classes IX-XII from various schools in the city and adjoining areas will listen to and interact with a panel of stalwarts at The Heritage School's Swami Vivekananda Auditorium on December 17.

"IIT alumni from across the country have pledged themselves to nation-building initiatives that will touch the lives of all citizens towards an inclusive growth of India," said Sujata Roy, vice-president, IIT-Kharagpur Alumni Foundation (India). "To meet this objective, we decided to start with the younger generation who are the flag-bearers of tomorrow's India."

The result was the first edition of IITeration with a focus on helping shape tomorrow's youth, with 450 students from 15 schools signing up for the day-long session.

"We started this programme series last year, which was a grand success and generated quite a buzz," Roy said. "Hence, we plan to have a larger number of students participating this year... we have invited about 30 schools from Calcutta and neighbouring areas."

With the realisation that the perception of career has undergone a paradigm shift and today's children are wary of treading the well-trodden path and instead want to explore the unknown, IITeration will explore the wealth of opportunities now available in India and bring together a number of successful professionals from diverse fields like financial entrepreneurship, industry, hospitality, management, education, science and technology, film-making, music and more.

The speakers for IITeration 2015 are Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, founder, MD and CEO, Bandhan Bank; Swami Atmapriyananda, vice-chancellor, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University; Sujoy Banerjee, chief people officer, Tractors India Pvt. Ltd; Debaditya Chaudhury, MD, Chowman and Oudh 1590 and vice president, Blue Lotus Communications; and Bedabrata Pain, scientist, innovator, film director and producer.

Sanjay Budhia, MD, Patton Group, will inaugurate the event, following which the speakers will share their experiences.

Students can interact with the speakers and other IIT alumni during a question-answer session.

"We plan to take this annual programme to greater heights every year. The current aim is to focus on the younger generation," Roy said.

"The theme will vary every year and the target audience may also change in future."
