Paes & Rafael beaten

Paris: Leander Paes' teaming up with Rafael Nadal did not really have the desired start to a partnership that many were looking forward to, as they lost their first-round match in the Paris Masters, here on Tuesday.

Dominic Inglot and Robert Lindstedt defeated the Indo-Spanish pair 6-3, 6-4 .

Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares stepped up their bid to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals on Tuesday when they defeated Colin Fleming and Andy Murray 6-2, 6-2 in the first round.

Peya and Soares, who arrive in Paris on the back of winning the Swiss Indoors Basel title, have 3,420 points in the Emirates ATP Race To London - just 35 points behind No. 8-placed Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea.

One doubles team spot is left up for grabs at the season finale, to be held at The O2 in London from 15-22 November.

Bopanna and Mergea face Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in their first match.

In singles, Stan Wawrinka advanced in his campaign with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win over Australian Bernard Tomic, after surviving a blip in the tiebreak to reach the third round on Tuesday.
