State to vie for national meet

Guwahati, Sept. 2: The All Assam Chess Association (AACA) has decided to host the next edition of the National Challenger Chess Championship here in 2015.

The newly elected executive body of the association that met for the first time at Cotton College premises here on Saturday, empowered its secretary Utpal Baruah to liase with the All India Chess Federation (AICF) in this connection.

Baruah has stated that he has already started corresponding with the AICF regarding the tournament.

The meeting, presided over by its vice-president Sujit Kr Dhar and attended by joint secretaries Hiranjit Bireswar Deori, Sarlin Bhuyan, Santanu Barpatra Gohain and Lakhyajyoti Saikia, chalked out a proposed itinerary of the AACA for next year.

Accordingly, the association has proposed to hold a coaching camp in every affiliated district between September and November and pick up four players from each district to groom further in a central camp here.

The AACA has 17 affiliated district units.
