Navajyoti, FCI win matches

Guwahati, Sept. 2: Navajyoti Club edged past Dynamo Club by a solitary goal while Food Corporation of India Sports Club eased past Ganga Sports Club 2-0 in their respective matches of the RG Baruah Guwahati Sports Association Super Division Football League at the Nehru Stadium here today.

In a keen contest, Navajyoti Club rode piggyback their Nigerian recruit Nwokwu Michael Okwudici’s 83rd minute goal to finish the first leg of the league with seven points while Dynamo Club ended with four points in their tally. Both the sides will feature in the relegation round in the second leg which kickstarts on September 5.

Despite the win, FCI will figure in the relegation round as the side finished the first leg with seven points. FCI ranked fifth, ahead of Navajyoti Club on the basis of a better goal difference. Debutants Ganga Sports Club will feature in the championship round which starts on September 6.

Fitness camp: The Assam Cricket Association has invited 44 Ranji Trophy team probables to attend a fitness camp here from Wednesday.

Rescheduled: The Assam Cricket Association has rescheduled its governing body meeting, which was supposed to be held at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here at 11am on September 7, to 5pm on September 8 at the same venue owing to “unavoidable circumstances”.
