Varsity student polls on Sept. 26

The syndicate sub-committee of Ranchi University (RU) has decided to hold the students’ union elections at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on September 26.

Apart from deciding on the poll date during a meeting on Monday evening, pro vice chancellor M. Raizzudin also announced the dates of filing nominations, scrutiny of the nomination papers, withdrawal and release of final list of contestants in the fray.

“Ending all of speculations, we have decided to hold direct elections at undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Those elected will participate at the university-level election scheduled in October,” said Raizzudin.

While the elections will be held on September 26, results will be declared the next day.

“We have sent notifications to vice chancellor L.N. Bhagat for his approval,” the pro VC added.

This will be the third students’ union elections for RU since inception. Students will be elected to the posts of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer.

Within 24 hours of announcing the dates, the different political parties have started membership drives. For instance, NSUI have formed help desks in colleges and prepared a detail report of students’ problems and requirements. Besides NSUI, the other parties in the fray are ABVP, Jharkhand Chatra Sangh, Jharkhand Chatra Morcha, Ajsu, AISF and SFI.
