Rebel trio in net, explosives found

Patna, Aug. 23: Three Maoists assembled near Chiriyatand bridge were arrested today early morning.

One among them, identified as Sambhuji alias Sambhu Kumar is an active member of the Special Area Committee of Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh of the CPI(Maoist) outfit.

The other two were identified as Sanjay Kumar and Sunil Singh.

Sambhuji, during police interrogation, said he was one among the masterminds who had given shape to the massacre of 16 members of the Tritiya Prastuti Committee, a breakaway faction of the Maoists, in Jharkhand on August 8 this year.

The men in uniform recovered 25 detonators, a compass, three Chinese-made radios, a car, nine cellphones and Rs 25,000 from the trio.

“A team was formed. We got information that a sedan was on its way towards Patna Junction through the Chiriyatand bridge. The car was followed and stopped near Jamaal Road,” Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said.

“Some objectionable items were found in the car. Many books related to Naxalism were recovered. This is a big catch for the police and the man is being further interrogated for more details. The driver doesn’t have a role to play, it has been ascertained,” the officer said.
