Armando willing to help in crisis

Calcutta: East Bengal coach Armando Colaco said on Friday that he was ready to take more responsibility if the club wanted him to, after influential official Debarata Sarkar was arrested by the CBI.

“I wore more than one hat during my Dempo days… I was the general secretary as well as the coach of Dempo… So I know about the administrative part also… If the club wants me, I am ready,” he said after a practice session at the Salt Lake Stadium, on Friday.

Club secretary Kalyan Majumder, after an executive committee meeting called in the wake of Sarkar’s arrest, though said: “I appreciate what the coach said… But let’s see.”

At the meeting, the officials decided to be more pro-active henceforth.

“We will be at the ground regularly during practice sessions to boost the players’ morale… And also we have asked our secretary to lead us during this crisis hour,” a senior club official said.

East Bengal officials unanimously decided to support Sarkar to the hilt. “We are with him. It’s our moral responsibility,” said Majumder.

East Bengal, meanwhile, may play Gurwinder Singh in place of Raju Gaikwad in the CFL Championship Round match against Aryan on Saturday. New signing Leo Bertos may play a part in the match.
