Adelaja is on target as Md. Sp. log full points

Calcutta: Mohammedan Sporting are not playing attractive football, they don’t have the team to show off. But their simple strategies and clear game seems to be paying off pretty well.

Playing their fourth match of the CFL Premier Division championship round, Mohammedan Sporting picked up their third victory when they went past Police AC 1-0, at the Barasat Stadium, on Thursday. They did the basics right and had their share of luck as well to log full points.

Somide Adelaja got the all-important goal at the fag end of first-half. Thereafter, there were chances galore for both the sides. But neither did Mohammedan Sporting manage to add to their lead nor did Police AC find an equaliser.

The match, to be fair, was pretty evenly contested. Police AC, coached by Chima Okorie, played well and created quite a few openings in the second-half. But their strikers were not sharp enough to utilise them.

In the 44 th minute of the first-half, Adelaja foxed the Police AC defender with a smart turn before unleashing a diagonal right-footer that beat ’keeper Jhantu Mondal. So swift was Adelaja that Jhantu did not have enough time to react.

In the second-half, Police AC looked more enterprising. Time and again Kivi Zhi Momi broke free through the right side, but despite getting time and space, he didn’t find the net. The player from Nagaland was adjudged the Man of the Match, but he should have done better with the chances he got.

Ashim Biswas could have got Mohammedan Sporting’s second goal at the hour mark. A diving header off a low cross from the left was thwarted brilliantly by Jhantu.

Coach Fuja Tope was not willing to predict anything for the match against Bagan on Sunday.

“You will have to wait and see… We are improving with every match. We will play according to the situation and will try our best versus Bagan,” the coach said.

Chima felt that Mohammedan Sporting have the ability to beat Bagan. “Yes, they can beat Bagan… Actually, you have to be confident, otherwise how will you fight.”
