Designer passes away

Sunil Sil

Calcutta, Aug. 21: Sunil Sil, the ABP Group’s creative director known for redesigning several publications that are household names in Bengal, passed away this morning. He was 61.

Sil, who was suffering from a kidney disorder, died after a cardiorespiratory arrest.

He graduated from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta, and joined the ABP Group in 1977.

Sil redesigned the Bengali magazines Desh, Sananda, Anandalok and Anandamela. He also designed the masthead of Ebela, the Bengali newspaper, and Sananda.

In 2006, he represented the group on an international platform, the Society for News Design Foundation, in Orlando. He had visited Germany for an infographics workshop in 1987.

Sil is survived by his wife Jaya, son Avirup and daughter Avantika.
