MLAs get 4 days to reply

Ranchi, Aug. 21: The five legislators, who recently quit the JVM to join the BJP, today sought 15 days more to file their replies in a case under the anti-defection law.

Assembly Speaker Shashank Shekhar Bhokta on August 12 had given time to JVM turncoats Samresh Singh, Phoolchand Mandal, Chandrika Mahtha, Nirbhaya Shahabadi and Jai Prakash Singh Bhokta to explain why they should not be tried under the Tenth Schedule of Constitution.

Today, appearing on behalf of the five MLAs, lawyer Arvind Kumar Lal sought 15 days more, citing technical lacunae in the notices served on them.

The Speaker, however, granted them only four days, and added that no more time would be given thereafter.

The case will be heard again on August 25.

Earlier, on August 16, Lal had asked for adequate time to prepare their defence and bring witnesses.
