Five in net for theft

Three gadget thieves have been arrested from Sonari, along with two minors who bought stolen items from them.

Police recovered a stolen laptop and a mobile phone.

The three thieves, identified as Budhram Lohar (19), Deepak Lohar (21) and Vishal Yadav (19), all residents of Sonari, have been forwarded to Ghaghidih Central Jail. On the other hand, the two minors — one intermediate student and the other a Class VIII student — have been sent to Ghaghidih-based remand home.

Speaking about the breakthrough, Sonari OC Animesh Gupta said the three youths had stolen a laptop and a mobile phone from the house of one Sachin Mittal at Sonari West Layout on July 29 night.

Acting on the FIR lodged by Mittal, the police had put the mobile phone number on surveillance.

“Finally, we caught hold of one of the minors yesterday (Sunday), who had bought the stolen cellphone from the thieves. On questioning, the Class VIII boy divulged the names of the persons who had sold him the handset. Subsequently, we nabbed all, one after another, and recovered the stolen electronic goods,” said Gupta.

The OC further said the intermediate student bought the laptop for Rs 8,000 while the other minor paid Rs 1,000 to get the stolen mobile phone.

According to police sources, the youth trio had been involved in at least six-seven incidents of theft in posh localities of Kagalnagar and West Layout in the past six months.

Elaborating on their modus operandi, a senior police officer said the youths would first carry out a recce of a house past midnight and attempt to steal goods when members of the house were asleep. “They mainly picked items kept near windows and balconies. After stealing the goods, they would sell them off in their locality,” he added.
