ASEB, Navajyoti in a 1-1 draw

Guwahati, Aug. 5: Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club held Navajyoti Club to a 1-1 draw in the inaugural match of the RG Baruah Guwahati Sports Association Super Division Football League at ground one of Nehru Stadium here today.

Despite going in front with a goal in the 16th minute of play, Navajyoti Club failed to hold on to its lead in the match for long, as the powermen were awarded a penalty, which was well converted by them in the 31st minute.

In an evenly-contested match, Navajyoti came close to finding the back of the net in the 12th minute.

However, R. Lalnundanga’s powerful strike from the edge of the box could only find the woodwork.

On being awarded a free-kick from the edge of the box, defender Amol Boro’s powerfully-struck shot saw the ball slipping through the gloves of ASEB custodian Daoga Brahma only to find the back of the net in the 16th minute. Desperate in search of an equaliser, the hard work of the powermen ultimately paved the way for a penalty after the ball hit the hand of Amol Boro inside the danger zone.

Jessy Vanlalmuana made no mistake in finding the target in the 31st minute.

In the second half, both the sides toiled hard to get the lead but failed.

On being supplied with a pass in a favourable position by skipper Sanjay Boro in the left flank, Karma Narzary’s close-range attempt was well saved by Navajyoti glovesman Subhajit Barman in the 47th minute. Navajyoti substitute Holiston Marak’s header off a corner by Lalduhawama witnessed Daoga Brahma making a well-judged save in the 71st minute.

In the Jibeswar Goswami GSA A Division Football League, Kamrupa Football Club got the better of Rajbari Athletic Club 3-2 in the second ground.
