15-yr-old escapes, abductor lynched

Tura, Aug. 2: A 15-year-old boy escaped a kidnapping attempt today, while one of his abductors was lynched to death in Meghalaya’s Janglapara, near Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills.

Tikrikilla is about 115km from Tura. At about 8.30am, Nazirul Islam from neigbouring Goalpara district along with a friend was proceeding towards Janglapara market, when four armed goons attacked them.

Islam and his friend were on a bike. One of the armed goons thrashed Islam’s friend, who was riding the bike.

Hearing the commotion while the miscreants and the two had a scuffle, “we came to rescue them,” said Jakram Rabha, a youth from the village.

As people gathered near the spot, the abductors made an attempt to flee.

However, one of them was caught and lynched to death.

The deceased has been identified as Jecky R. Marak. Islam and his friend are from Gaibandha village, near Lakhipur in Goalpara district. An FIR has been filed and police is investigating the matter.

In the last two months, kidnapping cases has been on the rise in Garo hills.
