Guwahati, Aug.1: The United Karate Do Association, Assam (UKAA), will host the eighth Sub-Junior State Karate Championship from tomorrow at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here.

Addressing a press meet here today, Nagen Bongjang, the secretary of the association, said, “Around 250 participants, including officials, are expected to participate in the two-day championship. The championship will feature five age-group categories in the kata and kumite events for boys and girls.” The championship will feature players from 14 affiliated districts, which include Cachar, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Titabor, Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Darrang, Sonitpur and hosts Guwahati.

“Refereeing is always an integral part of any contact game and that is the reason why we have organised a referee and judges workshop on August 1 and 2. With such seminars and workshops I believe the sport will develop further in the state,” said Bongjang.
