‘Ultimatum’ to university

Aug. 1: The Trinamul students’ wing today issued an “ultimatum” to Kalyani University to take action against officials the outfit thinks are involved in the cash-for-seats scam at a BEd college in Nadia.

The one-week deadline was set a day after the Trinamul Chhatra Parishad suspended a leader accused by a section of Bhaktabala BEd College students of taking money to facilitate admissions beyond the sanctioned strength.

Some Bhaktabala students have named Tanmay Acharya, the general secretary of the Kalyani University students’ union headed by the TMCP, in their complaint.

The TMCP claimed two Kalyani University officials had been named in the report submitted to the government by Jadavpur University interim VC Abhijit Chakraborty.

A TMCP leader said: “If no action is taken against the officials, we will resort to an indefinite sit-in at the varsity.”
