Guwahati, July 31: Both the matches of the Guwahati Sports Association Jibeswar Goswami A Division Football League had to be abandoned on the inaugural day at the Nehru Stadium here today following heavy showers.

In the match on ground one, Rising Eleven were leading by a solitary goal against City Police when heavy showers interrupted play in the 60th minute. Despite a goalless first half, Rising Eleven didn’t take long to break the deadlock. Wilson Dewri’s strike from the edge of the box off a pass from Ajoy Sonar, caught City Police custodian Prabin Medhi on the wrong foot in the 46th minute. The other match saw Sports Authority of India SC and Gauhati Town Club tied at one goal each in the 58th minute of play. Pranjal Bhumij provided SAI with the lead in the ninth minute while seasoned campaigner Sanjeeva Rongpi drew parity for Gauhati Town Club in the 29th minute. Both matches will be played again tomorrow, GSA officials said.

Football: Athletic Brothers Association held XI Star Sporting Union 1-1 to share a point each in the Maharajkumar Ghanendrajit Memorial Super Division Football League at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here today.
