Man held for triple murder

Raman Kumar Sao, a resident of Sandalpur, Patna City, was arrested on Thursday for killing two sisters, one of whom he was romantically involved with, earlier this month.

Police recovered the bodies of two sisters, Dimpy and Sweety, from a sewerage line in the Sandalpur locality under the jurisdiction of Alamganj police station in Patna City on July 14.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said not only did Sao kill 30-year-old Dimpy and 25-year-old Sweety, but also Dimpy’s five-year-old child Saufi Kumari.

Sao and Sweety were in a relationship since the time the girl came to Patna to study. They reportedly got married too, but Sao’s family disapproved of the match. He was married off to a girl from Madhubani’s Birpur village, but the couple still carried on their relationship on the side.

Sao confessed that he killed the three on the night of July 12 when he asked them to come to his home. He kept one of the bodies in a sack and wrapped up the other in a mat. Saufi’s body was put in a plastic bag. All three corpses were thrown into a sewerage line.

Maharaaj said: “The child’s body has not yet been recovered. The police questioned Vinay Kumar Dubey, the father of the two women, who is also from Madhubani district, around 200km northeast of Patna. He told the police that on July 12, his daughters and granddaughter left Madhubani in the morning, claiming to visit Patna for shopping. Dimpy told him if they got late, they would stay back at her in-laws’ place in Patna’s Bhikhna Pahadi. When they did not return after two days, Dubey called up Manoj Pandey, Dimpy’s husband, who told him the trio never reached his home.”

During investigation, the police came to know that Sweety used to study in Patna and found the Sao angle. Suspecting Sao’s involvement, officers went to Birpur village and took him into custody and brought him to Patna. He spilled the beans during interrogation, the SSP said.

Raman confessed that even after separation from Sweety, the duo remained in touch.

The SSP said: “Sweety’s family recently arranged her marriage and Sao came to know about it. So, he called her to his home in Patna. Sweety agreed and took along Dimpy and Saufi. They reached Hajipur from where Raman picked them up.

“Earlier, he deliberately picked a fight with his wife and sent her to her father’s place in Madhubani. Raman told Sweety not to marry but she refused and said she would continue their relationship. This got Raman angry and he decided to kill her. He asked Dimpy and her child to sleep in one room while Sweety slept in another. Raman first strangulated Sweety and then Dimpy and her child. He threw the bodies into the sewerage drain next to his house,” he added.
