Seal on Amit crown in August

New Delhi, July 23: The national council of the BJP is scheduled to meet on August 9 to complete the formality of ratifying Amit Shah’s appointment as the party president.

The meeting will be held in New Delhi although the venue is yet to be fixed.

The scheduled date indicated that the current session of Parliament, slated to conclude on August 14, could be wrapped up before August 9.

Shah was announced as the BJP president on July 9. But the national council needs to stamp its endorsement for him to formally take the baton from his predecessor Rajnath Singh.

The national council comprises members of the state councils, 10 per cent of elected members of Parliament, the former national and state presidents, heads of the party in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and the state Assemblies and legislative councils.

It has a maximum of 40 members who are nominated by the party president and heads of the BJP’s front organisations.
