Last week’s dacoity at a factory at the industrial hub of Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority (Biada) in Balidih, about 16km from Bokaro steel city, was staged by the owners to hoodwink its insurance firm and clients, police said on Monday.
Five persons, including the owner’s son and nephew, have been arrested. Owner Laxman Singh has been summoned for questioning.
Four quintals of stolen copper, which belongs to the firms that had sent their machinery for repairs to Singh Electrical and Engineering Works, have been also recovered from a house along with the car and the tempo that were used in the fake dacoity.
“The dacoity was faked to get the insurance money. We have arrested the owner’s son Shreekant Singh, nephew Santosh Kumar and staff Subodha Sharma, Ramchandra Singh and Upendra Tanti,” Bokaro SP Jitendra Singh said.
He added that the conspiracy was hatched a few months ago by Srikant, who got the raw materials stacked at the factory insured for Rs 40 lakh.
“Srikant took his cousin Santosh, Subodh, Tanti and guard Ramchandra into confidence, promising to pay them a part of the insurance money. We are verifying the role of Laxman Singh as Srikant is claiming that his father knew nothing,” the SP added.
According to the FIR filed by Laxman, an armed gang of 20 had broken into his factory on Thursday night and decamped with copper and cash worth Rs 30 lakh.
But police found out during the investigations that only copper provided by the private parties for repairs had been taken away along with an induction furnace. The company’s copper was hidden on the factory premises.
