Campaign for traffic awareness

- Chocolates for bikers without helmets in south dinajpur

Balurghat, July 20: The Kumarganj police in South Dinajpur took up an initiative with school children to create awareness of traffic safety by distributing chocolates to bikers without helmets.

The initiative was part of a week-long traffic awareness campaign which started on July 13. The idea was conceived by Ganesh Sharma, the inspector-in-charge of Kumarganj police station. Kumarganj is 30km from Balurghat.

On Saturday, at Barahar, around 25km from here, the Kumarganj police and students from Gopalganj High School and Kumarganj High School, came out on the Balurghat-Kumarganj state highway and distributed chocolates to bikers without helmets. They also gave ribbons to those who were wearing helmets as a token gift for abiding by the traffic rules.

Around 100 bikers were given chocolates.

“The awareness campaign started from 10am on Saturday and continued till 4pm. The event was a great success,” said Ganesh Sharma, the officer in-charge of Kumarganj police station.
