School rape cuffs on skating trainer

Bangalore, July 20: A school skating instructor who allegedly watched child rape videos for fun was arrested today on the charge of raping a six-year-old girl at the school.

Police commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar announced the arrest of “Mustafa alias Munna” in the July 2 Vibgyor School rape case that has sparked widespread protests in Bangalore.

“We found a lot of child porn in his laptop and mobile phone,” Auradkar told reporters. He alleged that some of the videos purportedly showed child rape and had been sourced from sleaze sites on the Internet.

Mustafa, a married man and father of three aged about 30, will be produced in court tomorrow. The Bihar native has been living in Bangalore for around 20 years, the police chief said.

Auradkar added that the suspect is believed to have misbehaved with children in other schools where he had worked. “We are trying to get more information on his earlier offences,” he said.

The police had earlier claimed to have detained a “gym instructor” and a school security guard.

The traumatised victim, who fell severely ill and spent several days in hospital, had identified the “gym instructor” in an identification parade on July 15. She had wrongly identified a second man — a police constable making up the numbers — suggesting there were two assaulters.

Auradkar would not say whether Mustafa was one of the two detainees.

Hundreds of Bangaloreans held a silent protest at the Freedom Park this afternoon demanding swift action in all rape and sexual harassment cases.
