AAP panic signal in poster row

New Delhi, July 19: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi secretary Dilip Pandey has been arrested over communally provocative posters that accuse three Delhi Congress MLAs of having taken bribes to defect to the BJP.

The AAP has denied any hand in the posters, but they are seen as a sign of the panic in the party after reports that eight Congress MLAs — including the three — could prop up a BJP-led government in the state. The BJP, with 29 MLAs, needs only five more to stake claim to power.

The AAP wants fresh elections and fears an end to its rebound hopes if the BJP gets power. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal too has alleged bribery and possible “horse-trading”.

The posters in the constituencies of the three Congress MLAs, all from the minority community, claimed they had taken Rs 20 crore each from the BJP and called for a “gherao” of their homes. The MLAs are “shaking hands with the RSS and the BJP” and the community shouldn’t pardon them, the posters said.

Pandey has been remanded in 14 days’ custody on charges of fuelling enmity between communities. The AAP claimed the posters were put up by a person who had nothing to do with the party, and that Pandey was being framed.
