Rape victim names five

A 14-year-old gangrape victim in Sitamarhi district identified her tormentors on Wednesday, hours after she was found unconscious 2.5km away from her home.

The girl, a resident of Marsama village, was allegedly kidnapped from her house and gangraped around 8pm on Tuesday. The area falls under the jurisdiction of Riga police station in Sitamarhi district, around 160km north of Patna.

She was found unconscious on the outskirts of Anhari village, 2.5km from her home, around 6 on Wednesday morning. She was admitted to Sitamarhi sadar hospital for treatment.

The girl, a student of Class IX, identified her alleged rapists — Sudhir Kumar, Naresh Rai, Jitendra Kumar, Ramji Rai and Ram Nihora Rai — from the hospital. They are absconding.

An investigating officer said the accused had an old dispute with the family. “The girl’s medical examination report would help police ascertain the involvement of the accused,” the officer said.

All the five men are from Marsama village. They have been made accused under sections 363 (kidnapping of a minor), 376 (rape) and 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, Riga station house officer Rakesh Gosai said.

He added that the victim’s father lodged a complaint on Wednesday, accusing the five villagers of forcibly picking up his minor daughter from the village late on Tuesday evening and outraging her modesty at a nearby village.

“Raids are being conducted at their suspected hideouts to arrest them,” Gosai said, adding that the girl’s statement would be recorded after her condition becomes normal.”

Social boycott

Residents of Survir in Siwan have decided to boycott the family of Ritesh Mishra, who allegedly raped a five-year-old girl with the promise of mangoes.

Members of the local panchayat took the decision on Wednesday.

An FIR was lodged against Ritesh at the Maharajganj police station. Station house officer of Maharajganj police station Abhinandan Mandal said the accused would be arrested soon.
