Injured AB won’t keep

Galle: Sri Lanka are hoping to give former captain Mahela Jayawardene a memorable farewell by winning the last four Tests of his career against South Africa and Pakistan, captain Angelo Mathews said on Tuesday.

South Africa are due to play two Tests in the series, the first of which begins on Wednesday, here, with the second in Colombo starting from July 24. The series will be followed by two Tests against Pakistan.

The Test series will also be Hashim Amla’s first as the South Africa Test captain. Being the nation’s second non-white Test captain after Ashwell Prince, Amla comes into the match in good form with scores of 109, 101 and 48 in the three-match ODI series. Meanwhile, injured AB de Villiers will play only as a batsman to avoid putting extra pressure on his hamstring. Quinton de Kock will take over the wicket-keeping duties.
